PLAYING SHAKESPEARE
Shakespeare's Women - Actors Workshop - 18+ only
Shakespeare writes for Women, believes in women and often makes them the hero of the story.
In this workshop we will explore some of Shakespeare’s strongest women: Portia, Rosalind and Viola, as they take a huge risk in society to buck the norm and dress as a man to enable them to speak freely and drive the narrative they have been deprived of as a woman in society.
Come play, explore and see how heroic and powerful Shakespeare’s writing for women is!
Sun 6 July
2pm-4pm
PLAYING SHAKESPEARE
Language and Character in Shakespeare - Actors Workshop - 18+ only
In Shakespeare’s time, you went to “hear” a play, not see it. Starting with the opening scene from The Tempest, we will recreate the storm, meet the different people on the ship and see what we can learn about them from what they say and how they say it.
Moving on, we will apply this understanding to other plays, other characters. From kings to clowns, monks to mechanicals, magical characters to foreign princesses, we will encounter an eclectic cross-section of Elizabethan society and discover how they reveal themselves through the way they use language….
Mon 7 July
6.30pm-8.30pm

CURFEW - Show by Calico
**Open to all genders**
What would you do if men had a curfew?
Run at night? Dance in the street? Wear what you want?
Curfew is an outdoor show by Birmingham-based artist & activist duo, Calico, coming to Temple Church on 27th & 28th July. Expect drag kings, wigs, verbatim voices, and media mash-ups as Calico explores the wild reality of gendered violence, victim-blaming and the dream of a world without it.
After the show, join the team for a post-show discussion where you imagine safer streets together. Because a curfew isn’t the solution, but there is a problem.
